Logging In To OneSource V5 Server

  • Using Remote Desktop:
    • Server: www.onesourcesoftware.net:22116
    • User: ESTDEV
    • osoQBO!2016

Logging into OneSource

  • OneSource (version 4) is located here: C:OneSourceUsersUser1OneSource.mdb
    • There is a short-cut to open it on your server remote desktop – desktop.
  • Double click on the desktop short-cut.
  • Login ID: Demo
  • Password: User
  • NOTE: To navigate the OneSource menus click on the ADD-INS tab.

File Structure Notes

  • OneSourceOneSource.WebClientBinOneSource.xap (can be renamed to .zip)
  • OneSource.Web.dll is the main file (rest of files help support)
    • OneSource.edmx (shows you what the data looks like in code – can see all used tables)
  • Custom Domain Services (Web Services)
    • Example: GetCustomersSortedByCompanyName (predefined recordset)

Opening OneSource in Development Mode

By default, OneSource is in the USER mode, which hides the tables and forms from the user.  Here is how you can switch OneSource between the SHOW OBJECTS mode and the HIDE OBJECTS mode:

  • To SHOW the OneSource Objects (to get into the Development Mod):
    • Open OneSource.
    • Double click on the the ONESOURCE logo on the top half of the Login screen.
    • Type 3 or more stars “*” as the password (then press Enter)
    • Type osshow (then press Enter)
    • Then close OneSource. Then re-open OneSource.
    • Now the Objects will be visible on the left side of the screen.
  • To HIDE the OneSource Objects (to get into the User mode):
    • Open OneSource
    • Double click on the the ONESOURCE logo on the top half of the Login screen.
    • Type 3 or more stars “*” as the password (then press Enter)
    • Type oshide (then press Enter)
    • Then close OneSource. Then re-open OneSource.
    • Now the Objects will be invisible to the end user.

General Changes We Want to Make in Version 5 (that are different than the Access version 4)

  • We want to REMOVE ALL SPACES in the object names. For instance: Invoice Lineitems would become InvoiceLineItems
  • We want to REMOVE the tbl table prefix. For instance: tblStates would become States
  • We want to Remove the plural nature in the names.  For instance: Customers would become Customer
  • There are NUMEROUS tables, forms, etc in v4 that will NOT be re-created in v5.

Finding V4 Tables (when referred to in V5 design notes)

  • If you open up OneSource (version 4) and click on Help > About OneSource, you will see the PATH to the linked data file next to the heading: Company Data File. (Note: It is usually stored here: C:OneSourceDataCompanyName.mdb (where company name is the name of our Customer).

Using the OneSource Knowledge Base Articles (KBA) System

  • We try to ‘format’ all KBA articles in the same way using the ‘STYLES’ feature in this tool.  (When in design view the STYLE feature is the drop down box to the right of the A and AB color sentence coloring options).
  • See the section below entitled ‘KBA System – Sample Section Heading (Heading 2) for examples of Headings, Sub Headings, Paragraph text, Bullet Points, Sub Bullet Points, etc.
